Learning objectives

The main objective of the course is the training of students in the field of rational feeding of dairy cows to raise cattle in the modern context of conventional and organic farming.

As specific objectives it is aimed to develop the students' ability to make decisions in the cattle raise domain, to perform optimized rations according to the specific needs of this category of cattle and to provide expert advice, taking into account the imposed requirements and to assure the quality of the production obtained.

The acquired skills by the students refer to:

  • knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the ruminant digestive tract;

  • establish the requirements for energy and nutrients to obtain adequate milk production in terms of quantity and quality;

  • appropriate use of the nutritional value assessment units of feeds and of the requirements of dairy cows, appealing to a broad range of methods;

  • application of basic principles and methods for obtaining hay and silage without diminishing their nutritional value.
