main objectives

This module will enable you to acquire practical experiences, to put scientific and technical knowledge into practice and to prepare your future employment and career prospects. A large part of your time will be devoted to a project in response to a question or problem from a professional partner organisation. You will develop your autonomy, ability to take initiatives, self-confidence and capacity for cooperation. You will acquire additional knowledge of the scientific research method as well as project management skills, in particular budget management and communication planning and implementation. You will also learn more about potential careers and the job market in the field of environmental sciences.

general content

Carrying out a project for a professional partner organisation, on an environmental topic for example, an assessment of environmental impacts of a product, process, installation or activity in a given area. In this context, proposal of solutions and analysis of costs and benefits. The proposed topics may be related to different types of partner organisation: farming profession, environmental protection, local authorities, industrial or company, agencies or public organisations.,Methods and approaches: Scientific method, approaches for innovation, project development, budget management and communication planning. Negotiation, influencing methods, acceptability of environmental projects. ,Career development activities: Soft skills (self-awareness, team work, stress management...) Career plan (job types and skills, CV and covering letter) Job market (networking, legal framework and salary negotiation, simulated job interview).,Communication in a team context. Project promotion to partners and clients. Identification of communication aims within a project: acceptability communication, public communication, communication in a crisis…,

pedagogy

Approximately 40% of the semester time is devoted to this module. Lectures and classroom work sessions but mostly independent study. Tutoring by teachers for the project work, meetings with professional partner organisations. Participation in classroom activities and/or a competition on the themes of innovation and entrepreneurship in relation to sustainable development.

evaluation

Continuous assessment. Written report and oral presentation for the partner organisation on the project results.
