The Erasmus+ program is not just for students! It also subsidizes staff exchanges in member or partner countries of the Erasmus+ program, as part of the project to internationalize higher education establishments. Three types of exchange are possible:
- Educational (STA):
Integrated into the official curriculum of an ESA European partner. Minimum of 2 days (8 hours teaching) and maximum of 2 months. An Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement must be signed between ESA and the European institution.
- Training (STT):
Staff (teaching, administrative or technical) can carry out a training exchange, a staff week, an internship or an observation period in a partner university, company, research institute or a training organization in Europe. Conferences are not eligible for this program.
Erasmus+ funding covers travel and expenses within the limits applied by the European Commission.

ESA staff experiences
-Teaching exchange at the University of Helsinki (Finland)
Testimony of Joséphine PITHON-RIVALLAIN (Teacher-Researcher in ecology):
“My time in Finland, and welcoming Irina to Angers, were very enriching experiences from all points of view. Finland has 5.5 million inhabitants and 7% of the land is in agriculture, which changes your mind compared to France! Of course, organizing such an exchange takes energy, but the returns on investment are there: ideas for teaching practices to be tested, new references to be explored and, I hope, opportunities for future collaboration. ”
-Training exchange at the University of Turin (Italy)
Testimony of Dominique LE MEURLAY (Technical Manager of the Cluster Research Unit):
“I went to Italy and worked in a laboratory at the University of Turin in Alba, a region known for its exceptional wines (Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco…), white truffles and the historic stronghold of Ferrero, a Nutella factory perfumes the city, depending on the direction of the winds …
I worked with Mario Gabrielli in the analysis laboratory on samples from a collaborative research project between the Grappe and the team of Professor Luca Rolle according to their protocol which I was able to transfer to the Grappe. I discovered the daily life of the researchers in this team. Unlike the Grappe, there is no technical team to carry out the laboratory work. It is the teacher-researchers who are at the bench with a few trainees. One word for them: the results obtained in the laboratory will be published. This professional trip allowed me to exchange with experts in the analysis of grapes and wine, these contacts may be useful to me later. I was able to compare our working conditions in the laboratory with theirs and am delighted with the organization of our laboratory in terms of safety.
I had the opportunity to do an ERASMUS internship when I was a student. I found that 30 years later I had exactly the same pleasure in this kind of experience which strongly stimulates and breaks everyday life. I’m ready to go! ”
