Analyzing wine terroir systems: field case study

main objectives

This practical course aims to highlight how Geographical Indications of old and new-world countries deal in practice with terroir management and collective marketing issues to create values through their specific product. ,Students acquire valuable skills in technical and sociological analysis using qualitative and quantitative approaches. ,Tasting sessions explain wine style and the quality of French and international wines.,

general content

Practical tutorials promote trouble shooting, formulation of questions and creation of an interview guide (tool box). ,Analyzing a global and local context using bibliographic and technical resources and surveying stakeholders of a specific territory (SWOT analysis).,One case study in Loire Valley (France) is collectively used to learn methodologies to analyze collective organizations around one GI and two other cases are analyzed and compared by each student in small groups: one Protected Designation of Origin in France and one GI in USA, South Africa and/or Australia to be able to analyze terroir systems.,
